Murfreesboro/ Smyrna, TN

As an iFace staff member, Matt Loving coordinates with a local team of volunteers who engage with international neighbors.

Getting to know Americans in your community can be a big challenge when you are from another culture. To bridge that gap, the Murfreesboro/Smyrna team currently befriends international students at Middle Tennessee University through various campus clubs/ongoing activities and through community programs centered around English conversation.

We provide several opportunities for students and volunteers to get to know each other during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Conversation Partners

We meet together once a week for a supper across from the MTSU campus. This weekly connection with our volunteers gives international students a great way to meet new local friends and improve speaking skills.

First Friends Partners

We match students with American volunteers and families from the area to meet monthly for friendship and cultural exchange, as a “home  away from home,” learning about the community and American culture.

And much more . . .

Community activities. Cultural and holiday exchange. ESL assistance, including Zoom meetings upon request. And for those students interested in learning what the Bible teaches, we offer Discovery Bible study about growing in Christian faith and fellowship.

Our volunteers are Christians committed to serving the international student community. We all appreciate the kind of friend who is willing to look after our best interests with genuine kindness. This is our goal for all students and volunteers in every iFace activity.
