Steve_JoyAfter sharing “Putting a Face to Ebola Medical Missionaries Named Time’s Person of the Year,” I received this update from Dr. Steve & Joy Lawn, a married team of medical doctors from England who are well known in the global health world and who helped lead our International Fellowship Community at Intown Church from 1997-2001.

We are saddened to hear that Steve has brain cancer,  called glioblastoma. Unfortunately, long-term survival of glioblastoma patients is rare and there is currently no cure.

We are praying for them at IFC on a regular basis & asking for a miracle to lengthen his life here on earth.

Here is the latest update from Joy:

Steve doing well against the odds and almost half way thru intense radiotherapy and chemo therapy and driving to Royal Marsden.
Once that is over in mid jan then we pause and see how much tumour has gone down and aim with a few miracles to get well beyond
median survival and with quality. Prediction is around 15-17 months but we have faith. Not easy but Steve being remarkable and
even cycled to Royal Marsden for some sessions.. He joked that for our 25th he took me to Royal Marsden for a fry up (which is his radiotherapy!).
I did point out was a fry up for one… So we keep smiling

Please pray for
– Steve and healing for his brain, help and strength and avoiding infections during this intense treatment phase until 7th Jan
– for both of us for courage as we adjust to a very different life, and especially in opportunities to talk to others

Steve was asked to speak at their church where it was packed to hear this man of God and man of medicine

…..none of us knowing the future and what do we trust in….as for us now more than ever we trust in God alone.

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I Timothy 6:12
